What is a student ID card and what is it used for?
Your personal ID card for studying at Montanuniversität Leoben.
It serves as:
- Photo ID
- Proof of identity during exams
- Library card
- Access card for buildings and laboratories
- Copy card
- Eligibility for discounts in the cafeteria
- Access to carrels
How do I get my student ID card at MUL?
- Complete your enrollment at the Study Support Center
- Upload a passport photo in the MUonline portal
- Collect your card at the reception of the Study Support Center (Peter Tunner-Straße 23, 2nd floor, 8700 Leoben)
⚠️ Upon enrollment at Montanuniversität Leoben, every student receives a student ID card. This card must be activated 2–3 working days after payment of the ÖH fee at one of the two terminals in the Study Center (2nd floor, near the Study Support Center). In addition, the validity date of the card must be renewed at the terminal every semester.
What should I do if my card is lost or damaged?
Loss/Theft
- Submit a lost property report to the lost property office of the city of Leoben.
- After submitting the lost property report at the Financial Accounting Department of the Montanuniversität Leoben (Franz-Josef-Straße 18, 1st floor, open from Monday to Friday 09:00 to 12:00), pay a fee of € 15.00 for the duplicate issue.
- Fill out the application for a duplicate ID under this link
- With the lost property report, proof of payment from the Financial Accounting Department of Montanuniversität Leoben and the completed application, have the duplicate ID card made at the reception desk of the SSC. (Please take note of the opening hours of the SSC or make an appointment)
Defect/Damage
Have your card checked at the reception of the Study Support Center, if necessary, a new card will be issued.
What is the digital student ID?
The Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research provides a digital student ID for all students at Austrian universities, university colleges of teacher education, and universities of applied sciences. It can be accessed via the “eAusweise” app.
To use it, you need either a fully activated ID Austria account or an eIDAS-notified electronic ID from an EU member state.
The digital student ID is optional and does not currently replace the MUL student ID card.
For key functions in everyday student life at MUL—especially identity verification during exams, library use, access to buildings and laboratories, and cafeteria discounts—the physical MUL student ID card must still be used until further notice.
