TÜV AUSTRIA Science Award
Big ideas. Bright minds. A stage to shine. Celebrating the 15th edition of the TÜV AUSTRIA Science Award.
The TÜV AUSTRIA Science Award 2026 recognizes outstanding scientific achievements and brings excellent research into the spotlight.
Applications are invited for dissertations, diploma and master's theses, as well as final-year projects from higher technical colleges (HTLs) in the fields of science and engineering that demonstrate exceptional quality, innovation, sustainability, and practical relevance.
Prize money amounts to EUR 5,000 for the best master's or diploma thesis and EUR 6,000 for the best dissertation. Eligible submissions are approved theses completed between 2024 and 2026.

We are especially pleased that three graduates of Montanuniversität Leoben have already received the TÜV AUSTRIA Science Award in recent years.
Perhaps this anniversary edition—24 November 2026, 7:30 p.m., Kuppelsaal, TU Wien—will once again bring the award to a graduate of Montanuniversität Leoben.
Styrian Memorial Foundation – Call for Applications for the Josef Krainer Promotion Award 2027
In memory of the achievements of the prominent Styrian Governor (Landeshauptmann) who served from 1948 to 1971, the Josef Krainer – Styrian Memorial Foundation is announcing the "Josef Krainer Promotion Award 2025" to honor outstanding accomplishments by young researchers.
The Promotion Award serves as a recognition of the achievements of early-career researchers and aims to encourage further work in the field of science.
The award is endowed with €2,000. The board reserves the right to divide the prize among multiple recipients.
Applicants must demonstrate the required qualification with a doctoral dissertation rated "Sehr gut" ("Very good"). The dissertation must have been approved in either 2024 or 2025.

The Josef Krainer – Styrian Memorial Foundation announces the Josef Krainer Recognition Award 2027
In memory of the achievements of the prominent Styrian Governor who served from 1948 to 1971, the Josef Krainer – Styrian Memorial Foundation is announcing the "Josef Krainer Recognition Award 2027" to honor outstanding achievements of early-career scientists and scholars.
The Recognition Award is intended for young but already well-established researchers in more advanced stages of their careers. It serves as acknowledgment of their accomplishments to date (particularly their habilitation) and as motivation for continued top-level performance.
The award is endowed with €3,000. The board reserves the right to divide the prize among multiple recipients.
Applicants must demonstrate the required qualifications through a scientific achievement that is excellent by international standards.

HUNTING FOR EXCELLENCE for the year 2026
The Dr Franz Josef Mayer-Gunthof Foundation of the Federation of Austrian Industries will continue to award scholarships to students who are about to complete their studies in 2026.
Under the motto "Hunting for Excellence", it aims to contribute to the development of industry-relevant topics of the future.
In 2025, financial support totalling around € 8,000 will be provided. Expected distribution: 2 x € 2,500, the remaining € 3,000 will be divided according to the quality of the respective applications.
Closing date for applications: 09.10.2026
The foundation has both an economic and scientific focus. It supports studies for the acquisition of skills and the deepening of the respective specialised foreign language skills at top international institutes in education, science and research.

Merit-Based Scholarship for the Academic Year 2025/26
Merit scholarships are awarded in recognition of outstanding academic performance by students enrolled in regular degree programmes who are Austrian citizens or are considered equivalent under Section 4 of the Austrian Student Support Act (StudFG).
Eligible applicants are regular students at Montanuniversität Leoben who are Austrian citizens or are considered equivalent under Section 4 of the StudFG.

Applications for a merit scholarship must be submitted via the "Scholarship Platform" tile on your personal MUonline homepage. Graduates who no longer have access to MUonline can access the Scholarship Platform via the Montanuniversität Leoben website.
