Translation and Verification of Documents

Translation of Documents

If your original documents were not issued in German or English, they must be translated into German or English by a sworn and court-certified interpreter.

You can find a list of sworn and court-certified interpreters in Austria under the following links:

Verification of Documents

Please find out in advance whether you need to have your documents certified and what Type of certification is required.

Beglaubigung mittels Apostille

Check whether the issuing state of your documents is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. In this case, certification by means of an apostille is necessary.

Complete Diplomatic Legalization

If you cannot find your issuing state on the list above, a full diplomatic legalization is necessary.

  1. First check with the domestic authorities of the country issuing your documents (e.g., Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ...) as to how legal documents are usually certified.
  2. The next step is a certification by the Austrian representative authority (Austrian embassy or consulate). Only then are your documents fully certified and fulfil the necessary requirements for the application for admission.

By clicking on the links below you can find out which Austrian representative authority is responsible for you:
